MONA pushes the limits of what should be on display, it's honestly one of the most memorable museums we've been to.

They rotate the exhibitions several times per year, but there are a few permanent ones like the famous “cloaca professional” or "The Great Wall of Vulva."

There's also a couple of restaurants and wineries in the grounds, so you can easily spend the whole day there,

If you’re basing yourself in Hobart for a few days, this is a must! Even if you’re not usually a museum or art person.

Note: If you're travelling with kids, we'd recommend checking the exhibits ahead of time (in the website) and decide which ones to visit with them. Some are kid-friendly but others can spark uncomfortable conversations LOL.

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • You’ll think “wtf am I seeing?” a lot

  • Some exhibits have a virtual queue, you can join via their app “The O” which also has details on each art piece, maps, etc

  • Plan at least 3-4 hours just in the museum

TO ACCESS

  • Located in Berriedale, 15 minutes from central Hobart

  • You can drive or take the MONA ferry from Hobart’s waterfront

  • Open most days, last time we checked it closes on Tue and Wed, so double check before you go

  • Grab entry tickets here
