Cape Raoul is a 14 km return hike (allow 5 to 6 hours) with some of the most dramatic sea cliffs on the Tasman Peninsula!

It’s NOT part of the official Three Capes Track, though. It’s a different, full day hike south of Port Arthur.

Most people do this trail instead of the Three Capes. It’s easier to access and the views are just as incredible.

Plus you can take the 2-3-hour detour to check out the iconic Shipstern Bluff, one of Australia’s heaviest surf breaks! It’s visible from the Cape if you’d rather not take the detour, though.

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • Moderate uphill climb at the start, then mostly flat

  • Good signage and well-maintained trail

  • Wind can be strong at the cape

  • Toilets and logbook at the trailhead

TO ACCESS

  • Park pass required

  • Sealed road most of the way, last stretch is gravel but 2WD accessible

  • No water or shelter along the trail, bring everything
