Most iconic lookout in Bruny Island

Sightseeing

This is one of the most impressive lookouts you'll ever see! It's at the top of a steep wooden staircase and gives you that classic Bruny shot, with ocean on both sides of the island.

You’ll see it called “The Neck Lookout,” but its proper name is Truganini Lookout, and there are signs at the base that explain more about her story and the history of the area.

It’s a quick stop for day trippers, as most people go to take in the views and a couple of photos. But if you’re staying overnight on Bruny Island, this is a prime spot for aurora watching!

Honestly, if you're staying a couple of days in Bruny, we recommend going there as much as possible. Try to go at a higher tide too, so you can see the two oceans colliding.

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • Around 300 stairs, take it easy, there’s no shade

  • Best to time it with high tide for the full effect

  • Gets busy around midday, but doesn’t take long

TO ACCESS

  • Free to access

  • Open all day

  • Sealed carpark and toilets at the base
