This is one of the heaviest and most famous surf breaks in Australia.

It’s known for its thick, mutating waves and deadly conditions, so it’s the kind of place only elite big-wave surfers take on, usually with jet ski support and helmets.

But even if you don’t surf, it’s wild to see in person!

To get there, it’s a 9 km return hike off the Cape Raoul track. But the lookout at Cape Raoul gives you a solid view from above if you don’t want to go there.

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • Massive waves when conditions line up

  • You won’t see crowds or swimmers, just raw coastline

TO ACCESS

  • Park pass required

  • 9 km return hike from the Cape Raoul trailhead (Stormlea Road)

  • Steep and exposed trail, allow 3 to 4 hours

  • No signage or facilities at the bluff
