This 11km return hike (4-5 hours) is one of the most popular walks on Maria Island, ending on two massive dolerite columns in the summit, one named the Bishop and the other the Clerk.

The views from the summit are absolutely mindblowing, but it’s exposed with sheer drops and requires some scrambling to get there, so do not attempt it on windy days. 

If you’re keen on doing it, we recommend staying overnight on the island. We don’t think a full day is enough to do this hike and check other spots!

WHAT TO EXPECT

• 11 km return, allow 4-5 hours depending on pace

• Steady incline most of the way, gets harder near the summit

• Boulder scrambling required, not suited for beginners

• Exposed sections and sheer drops so avoid in bad weather

• Free to access, but Maria Island requires a parks pass
