Coiba is the largest island in Central America, with 503 sq km situated off the coast of Panama's Chiriquí Province. The island has been isolated for thousands of years and as such has become a haven for rare flora and fauna which includes the Coiba Island howler monkey and Coiba spinetail. It was formerly inhabited by a feared penal colony but closed in 2004 due to allegations of brutality. Since has it become a beautiful, world heritage listed reserve where amazing wildlife such as scarlet macaws, 34 species of sharks, dolphins, sea turtles, manta rays, and marlins can be spotted. With stunning beaches, forests, mangroves and reefs to explore, it is truly an adventurer's paradise!
