If you're looking for the perfect mountain escape in Romania, Poiana Brașov is hard to beat. I've visited in both winter and summer, and each season offers something special. In winter, it's the country's most popular ski resort, while in summer it transforms into a peaceful destination filled with hiking trails, fresh mountain air, and beautiful forest views.
One of the things I love most is that you don't have to be a skier to enjoy it. You can take the cable car up the Postăvaru Massif for incredible panoramic views, relax at one of the many spas, enjoy a cozy meal with mountain scenery, or simply walk through the resort and soak up the atmosphere. And if you want to explore more, Brașov's charming Old Town is only about a 20-minute drive away.
Whether you're planning a romantic weekend, a family holiday, or an active mountain adventure, Poiana Brașov is one of those places I always enjoy coming back to.
My Tips
Visit in late spring or early autumn if you prefer fewer crowds and beautiful mountain scenery.
If you're staying for a few days, combine your trip with a visit to Brașov's Old Town—it's close and absolutely worth it.
Even if you don't ski, take the cable car to the top of Postăvaru for some of the best views in the area.
Restaurants and hotels can be quite expensive, so book your accommodation early if you're traveling during ski season or on weekends.
Bring comfortable hiking shoes, even in summer—there are plenty of scenic trails starting right from the resort.
