Arkadi Monastery is one of the most important monasteries of Crete, with a marvelous architecture and a glorious past that centers around the tradition of olive trees cultivation and olive oil production.

This Monastery used to own and govern all the surrounding areas thanks to its vast olive groves. On the inside of the fortified walls of the Monastery you will stumble upon one of the most impressive temples: the Transfiguration of the Saviour.

I visited in the late afternoon hours and the way that the light penetrated from the windows and doors of the church truly had me in awe.
