The Brunnihütte SAC is a cozy mountain hut nestled on the sunny side of Engelberg at 1860m. Since you can reach the hut with a chair lift, it's a good choice for those that want a mountain hut experience without a long or difficult hike to get there.
Location: Wydenstrasse 55, 6390 Engelberg
Open: summer season May to October
Website: brunni.ch
This hut is popular with families since it's near lots of fun activities including the Brunni Tickle Path, Treasure Hunt Trails, Via Ferrata course, and Ristis playground.
For day trippers, their restaurant is open for lunch and refreshments during the day, with stunning mountain views from its spacious sun terrace. Last time I went, they requested we pay with cash and charged a fee for using a card to pay.
Overnight stays
They offer dormitory style rooms with bunks as well as double and single rooms. Bathrooms are shared. Showers cost extra.
You should bring a sleeping bag liner, but you can rent one for CHF 5. You also need clean indoor slippers to wear inside the hut. See my Mountain Hut 101 post for tips.
Prices start at CHF 81/adult, for a dormitory room and half board (breakfast and dinner). Book online at www.alpsonline.org
Dogs are welcome.
How to get there
You can reach the hut starting with the Engelberg Brunni cable car - Wydenstrasse 55, 6390 Engelberg. The cable car brings you to Ristis, where you'll find a restaurant and big playground. From here, you can ride a chair lift up to the Härzlisee lake, where you'll also find the Brunnihütte.
