Peyto Lake is easily one of the most photographed lakes in the Canadian Rockies and a highlight of many trips along the Icefields Parkway. Its brilliant turquoise color and fox-head shape make it a truly unforgettable sight.

Reaching the main viewing platform requires a short but uphill walk, though the trail is paved and manageable for most visitors. For those looking to capture the most iconic photos and videos, the best shots are past the viewing deck, farther uphill on a rock bluff, where you can get a higher, less obstructed angle of the lake.

The hike to the lake is a bit more of an adventure and is best done from a pull-off further down from the viewpoint. It's not a popular stop and is largely used by anglers, paddlers, or ice skaters when conditions are right.
