The Great Divide Trailhead is a hidden gem known to locals as the old 1A Highway. This approachable trail offers a wilderness-like experience with its double track and skating lane, perfect for cross-country skiing. Stretching 20 km round trip with a gentle elevation gain, this trail takes you down to the BC and Alberta border. Limited parking is available, so arrive early or have a backup plan ready. Check out the lively dog sled tours that use the same route, and consider adding an extra 3 km by parking at Lake O'Hara for a downhill one-way adventure. Closed for 24/25 as they clear a firebreak for Lake Louise.
