Castle Sinclair Girnigoe located just 3 miles north of Wick is one of our favourite castles because of its position by the water and the unique features that still remain intact. We'd really advise visiting here.

This Scottish ruin actually consists of two castles: the 15th-century Castle Girnigoe; and the early 17th-century Castle Sinclair.

Some history:

The castle was built by William Sinclair, 2nd Earl of Caithness between 1476 and 1496 and later expanded in 1606 when Castle Sinclair was commissioned near it. Although some history of rebellious acts, wars and rivalries are related to the castle, present day visitors come to admire its unique architecture and take part in some of its impressive preservation efforts which are ongoing today with the help of the Clan Sinclair Trust.
