What to order

Carne de porco à Alentejana – pork with clams, one of Portugal’s most iconic dishes. We also had the baked cod – cod baked in hot oil and garlic with potato and cooked vegetables – and sardines. Best to get the sardines in summer when they’re in season.

Why it’s here

A small, traditional lunch spot in central Lisbon serving authentic Portuguese dishes at great prices. One of our favourite dining experiences in Lisbon. Very friendly staff and a proper local feel.

Tip

We’ve been twice – expect queues around lunchtime (1–2pm), but it’s worth the wait. Go early when they open at 12pm for the best chance of a table. Closed on weekends. Finish with a rice pudding and a glass of port – a great way to end the meal.
