Point of Ayr Lighthouse on Talacre Beach is one of North Wales’ most photogenic coastal landmarks. Built in 1776, the red-and-white tower now stands abandoned, tilted slightly in the shifting sands — giving it a wonderfully atmospheric, almost ghostly feel. I loved wandering along the flat beach, passing sand dunes and sea grass, and taking in the lighthouse from every angle.

At low tide, you can walk right up to the base of the lighthouse, while at high tide it’s cut off by water, which adds to its lonely, striking charm. Whether you’re here for photography, a quiet walk, or just to explore the dunes, it’s a stop that combines natural beauty with a touch of maritime history.

Practical tips: Parking is available in Talacre village (pay-and-display, just a few minutes’ walk from the sand). The beach is flat and family-friendly, though it can get windy — bring layers or a hat on breezy days. Toilets are at the nearby car park.
