What to expect:
Welcome to the hidden magic of the Rosenlaui Valley 🌿
This peaceful alpine valley feels like stepping into another world. Surrounded by towering cliffs, waterfalls, and untouched nature.
Right next to it, you’ll find the famous Gletscherschlucht Rosenlaui, a dramatic glacier gorge with thundering water cutting through narrow rock walls. The gorge is open from mid-May and absolutely worth it (as we read), but even if it’s closed, the valley itself is pure magic. (We visit it in end of April)
You can simply sit by the turquoise river, let the kids play, or take an easy walk along the valley and soak in the views. It’s calm, spacious, and far less crowded than many other Swiss spots - perfect for a slow nature day.
How to get here:
Best option is by car 🚗
There’s a parking area in the valley (CHF 8 per day).
📍From Zurich: around 1.5–2 hours drive
Public transport is possible but takes longer:
Train to Meiringen, then take the PostBus towards Rosenlaui / Schwarzwaldalp. From there, it’s a short walk into the valley.
Notes:
– Parking costs CHF 8
– Gletscherschlucht Rosenlaui open from mid-May (seasonal)
– Perfect for families: flat paths, lots of space to explore
– Bring snacks or picnic - ideal spot by the river 🧺
– Even without entering the gorge, the valley itself is 100% worth the trip
Our tip:
Come early or later in the day for that peaceful, almost untouched vibe ✨
