This wild camping spot with it's breathtaking view into the valley is one of my all time favorites. The hike get here includes rocky alpine terrain and should only be attempted by experienced trampers and in good weather. It is not recommended in winter due to avalanche danger and it's too cold to camp anyway.
Once you get to the saddle, head towards your left to find a sheltered spot to camp. There is a small lake further along the ridge on the left that's great for collecting water.
Please be prepared to pack everything you need in & out with you. Make sure you check the weather forecast, and have the right gear before tackling this trail.
This track is reached from the Gerturde Valley carpark, about 98 km along the Milford Road from Te Anau.
