Tunnel Hill is a must-see outting for nature lovers and history buffs alike! Located in the Catlins coastal area of Otago, it is the site of the world’s southernmost railway tunnel. Take a short, scenic walk through the historic reserve to explore this incredible feat of engineering. The carpark and track entrance are easily accessible off State Highway 92 and well signposted. Journey along the old railway formation leading to the 250-metre tunnel, after which visitors will come to a peaceful picnic area overlooking the local farmland and scenery. With its rich history and stunning natural surroundings, Tunnel Hill is the perfect destination to make new treasured memories!
