Punakaiki Cavern is an incredible limestone cave located near the road, and just a few steps away from the ocean. During the day, visitors can explore the depths of the cave with the backdrop of waves crashing in the distance, and when they come back at night, a magical experience awaits them. Hundreds of tiny blue lights line up the ceiling of the cavern, giving it the appearance of a starry night sky; and, in the main chamber, glow worms embody an even more enchanting setting. Visitors must bring a torch to explore and should watch out for muddy terrain, slippery rocks, and puddles along the 150m of cavern; but overall, the experience is easy going. Those who love nature, adventure, and a unique atmosphere will absolutely enjoy Punakaiki Cavern.
