🛣️ How to Get There

Rngkylliaw Root Bridge is located near Laitkynsew village, about 20 km from Sohra (Cherrapunji) and roughly 65–70 km from Shillong. The best way to get there is by private car or local cab. Roads are mostly in good condition, though some final stretches may be rough. From the roadside, it’s a short 10–15 minute downhill hike through a forested trail. The path is uneven but manageable for most fitness levels. During the monsoon, it can get slippery, good shoes and care are essential.

🌿 What to Expect

The root bridge spans a small stream nestled in dense greenery. It may not be as long or elaborate as the double-decker in Nongriat, but it offers a more intimate, tranquil experience. The area is quiet, clean, and naturally shaded by trees. You can walk across the bridge, sit beside the stream, or explore the nearby village surroundings. There are no crowds, no shops, and no commercial setup, just you, the forest, and a piece of living architecture.

🔍 For the Curious

Rngkylliaw is a wonderful example of community-engineered sustainability. The Khasi tradition of weaving root bridges is an ancient practice that reflects deep respect for nature and time. These bridges can take 10–15 years to form fully and can last for hundreds of years with care.it’s a great stop if you want to learn about local ecological traditions, or if you want a quiet moment away from Meghalaya’s busier attractions.
