How to Get There

The Seven Sister Falls Viewpoint is located about 1.5 km from Sohra town (Cherrapunji), easily accessible by car or local taxi. It’s located right on the main Sohra–Mawsmai–Tyrna road, and is often included as part of a halfday sightseeing tour around Cherrapunji.

There is a large designated viewing platform and some roadside stalls nearby selling snacks and souvenirs. No trekking required, just park and walk a few steps to the edge.

What to Expect

  • A panoramic view of the 7-segmented waterfalls cascading down from the high cliffs

  • Sweeping vistas of the plains of Bangladesh in the distance (on clear days)

  • Best experienced during monsoon or just after (June to October)

  • Popular photo spot, but usually peaceful early in the morning or late afternoon

Note: The falls are seasonal, during dry months (November to May), water flow may reduce or disappear entirely, though the landscape is still beautiful.

For the Curious

The name “Seven Sister Falls” comes from the seven parallel streams that fall side by side when in full flow. These represent the seven northeastern states of India (also referred to as the Seven Sisters).

The falls drop from the limestone cliffs of the Khasi Hills into a deep gorge below and are fed by rainwater runoff from the Sohra plateau. The geography around the viewpoint is part of the Meghalaya subtropical forests ecoregion, known for its biodiversity and high rainfall.
