Noh Kawang waterfall is an offbeat stunningly beautiful waterfall in Meghalaya, 110 kms from Capital City of Shillong in Meghalaya. One can drive up till trek start point near Trangblang village and from there trek down till the waterfall. Trek is a half an hour easy to moderate difficulty but beautiful trek.

How to Get There

Noh Kawang Falls is located near the village of Mawlyngbna, in the East Khasi Hills district, around 75 km from Shillong. The journey takes roughly 2.5–3 hours by road. You can hire a cab or drive yourself—roads are decent, but rural and winding in places. Once you reach the vicinity, a short hike through village trails and light forest paths is required to reach the main viewpoint. The local community sometimes provides guides, especially during the tourism season.

What to Expect

  • A tall, elegant waterfall plunging into a deep valley

  • Surrounded by pristine forest, birdlife, and mountain air

  • Often covered in mist, giving it a mystical, untouched feel

  • Minimal infrastructure, raw nature, no handrails or viewpoints

  • Perfect for photography, quiet reflection, or picnicking

For the Curious

Noh Kawang is a great example of how Meghalaya hides its most beautiful places in plain sight. It’s not commercialized, so the experience here is truly natural, ideal for nature lovers, slow travelers, and those who enjoy the road less traveled. The area around Mawlyngbna is rich in biodiversity and geological interest too, so you can combine the visit with other natural spots like Umdingkain Falls, Split Rock, and prehistoric fossils sites nearby.
