Directions

I hike this classic route very often and each time, I come back again because it just such a scenic route. It's not that long actually and mid-way the cedar lined approach turns into stone steps and shrines.

By the way, you can rent traditional attire from Heian Era for photoshoot.

About:

Step back in time as you walk the Daimon-zaka, a magnificent cobblestone staircase that has served pilgrims for over a thousand years. Lined with towering, centuries-old cedar trees, the mossy path creates a truly mystical atmosphere on your approach to the sacred Kumano Nachi Taisha Grand Shrine and the stunning Nachi Waterfall. This beautiful, short walk begins right from the Daimon-zaka bus stop and parking area, with the main stone staircase taking about 30-40 minutes to ascend at a comfortable pace.
