Get off here if you are looking to hike the Kumano Kodo Nakahechi Trail. Usually it's a good idea to stay the night at a ryokan near the station and head out the next day.

One option is Kamenoi Hotel which is a traditional style onsen accommodation with shuttle bus pick up from the station.

About:

Welcome to Kii-Tanabe, the starting point for your spiritual journey into the heart of the Kii Mountains. This station is your gateway to the ancient Kumano Kodo pilgrimage routes, and you'll feel the quiet anticipation in the air as fellow pilgrims arrive. Just outside, you'll find the tourist information center and the bus stops that will take you directly to the trailheads, making your transition from modern transport to ancient path seamless and simple.
