Kusatsu Onsen is my favorite hot spring resort, however it is quite popular among locals living in Tokyo.

Fyi its healing waters that supposedly cure everything but lovesickness, Kusatsu has been a haven for centuries.

The best part about Kusatsu is that everything is so compact, making it easy to explore. I love the charming onsen town vibe and the delicious street food. The iconic Yubatake hot water field and the traditional Yumomi performance are must-sees, and you don't have to book a hotel very close since you can easily walk there at night.

Be aware, though, that weekends can get quite busy and expensive, so I always aim to go on weekdays to avoid the crowds and higher prices. Whether it's skiing in winter or hiking in other seasons, Kusatsu offers the perfect blend of relaxation and outdoor activities. For anyone seeking rejuvenation or just a fun getaway, Kusatsu Onsen is an unbeatable destination!

Access: Kusatsu is easily accessible from Tokyo by car or by express bus.
