The Falls Retreat is far more than a restaurant—it's a destination in its own right. I love the whole concept of this place, from its beautiful gardens and strong focus on sustainability to the workshops where you can learn everything from sourdough baking and preserving food to brewing kombucha. Many of the ingredients are grown right on site, and that care and attention shines through in every dish. The food is beautifully presented, with inspiring flavour combinations that celebrate the seasons and local produce. While the portions are on the smaller side, this is one of those experiences that's about slowing down and appreciating every bite. With tiny houses, glamping tents, garden tours and Owharoa Falls just a short stroll away, it's somewhere I'd happily spend an entire day—or even a weekend.
