The Nitmiluk Katherine Gorge hike is honestly so underrated! It offers a stunning exploration of rugged landscapes, ancient rock formations, and abundant wildlife. The hike will take through the gorge's diverse landscapes, offering panoramic views of the river below and the surrounding terrain!

We did the popular route called the Butterfly Gorge Walk, named for the abundant butterflies that flutter through the lush vegetation, especially during the dry season! This trail is approximately 4km return and takes about 2-3 hours, depending on your pace. Along the way, you'll find shady spots, rock pools, and vibrant clusters of butterflies, making it a serene and picturesque experience. The track leads to a tranquil swimming spot within the gorge, perfect for cooling off and soaking in the natural beauty! We also packed a picnic which we enjoyed down in the gorge by the water.

The trail can be moderately challenging with uneven terrain, so sturdy footwear and LOTS of water are essential! There's not much shade, so slip slop slap accordingly.
