Wedgemount Lake is a breathtaking alpine hike near Whistler, BC, known for its steep incline and jaw-dropping views of turquoise glacial water, dramatic mountain peaks, and the Wedgemount Glacier. It’s one of the most rewarding day hikes or overnight adventures in the Sea to Sky region.
Whether you're coming up for a tough day hike or planning to stay overnight, the sight of the lake will leave you speechless. There are tent platforms and a basic hut near the lakeshore, offering a rugged but unforgettable camping experience under the stars.
Bring poles for the descent - the trail is relentlessly steep, and footing can be tricky on roots and rocks.
📸 The best photo spot is from your camp spot, by the lake, or up high the rocky ridge as you crest into the lake basin. That first view of the bright teal water with Wedge Mountain towering behind it is pure magic.

Out & back
To reach the Wedgemount Lake trailhead, drive 13km north of Whistler and turn onto a gravel forestry road. A high-clearance vehicle is helpful, but many 2WD cars make it with care. The trail climbs steadily through forest before opening up to a rocky boulder field and finishing with a steep final push into the alpine basin.
