🌊 Brimketill Lava Rock Pool

🗺️ How to Get There:
From Grindavík, drive west on Road 425 for about 10 minutes. The site is clearly signposted with a small parking lot and a metal viewing platform overlooking the lava pool. It's just a 2-minute walk from the car.

📅 Best Time of the Year to Visit:
Year-round, but it’s especially dramatic in winter or stormy conditions when waves crash into the lava cliffs. Summer offers safer conditions and softer ocean light during golden hour.

📸 Photography Tips

Best time of day:

  • Golden hour adds warm tones to the dark lava and shimmering ocean

  • Stormy days (from a safe distance) add power and drama

  • Evening light often comes in low from the west over the Atlantic

Recommended gear:

  • Telephoto lens to compress crashing waves

  • Wide-angle lens to frame the cliff edge and pool in context

  • Drone if you want to experiment with aerial views

Composition ideas:

  • Frame the pool in the lower third with waves crashing behind

  • Use diagonal lava lines to lead the viewer’s eye

  • Wait for a wave to hit just right for a powerful moment
