🌊 Barnafoss Waterfall

🗺️ How to Get There:
From Borgarnes, follow Road 50, then Road 518 toward Reykholt and Húsafell. Barnafoss is right next to Hraunfossar, with both waterfalls sharing the same parking lot and access paths. The short walking trail leads from the main lot to several well-maintained viewing platforms, including one directly over Barnafoss.

📅 Best Time of the Year to Visit:
Open year-round. Autumn offers stunning foliage contrasts, while winter adds icy textures along the canyon. In spring, snowmelt boosts the water volume and intensity. Be cautious in icy conditions.

📸 Photography Tips

Best time of day:
Late afternoon or overcast days help manage contrast in the narrow canyon. Golden hour works well if the light angles into the canyon.

Recommended gear:

  • Wide-angle lens to capture the canyon and rapids

  • Telephoto for isolating blue torrents and lava textures

  • Tripod and ND filter for long exposure blurring of the water

  • Drone for top-down shots of the rapids

Composition ideas:

  • Shoot from above to emphasize the twisting path of the water

  • Include layers of lava rock and moss for texture contrast

  • Try vertical framing to capture depth and vertical motion
