🐑 Selvallafoss (Sheep’s Waterfall)

đŸ—ș How to Get There:
Selvallafoss lies directly along Route 54 in the Snéfellsnes Peninsula, between Berserkjahraun lava field and Ólafsvík. There's a small parking on the south side of the road, with a short trail leading behind and around the waterfall, yes, you can walk behind it! It’s a roadside stop, no hike needed, just a small easy walk.

📅 Best Time of the Year to Visit:
Accessible year-round, but best from May to September when sheep roam freely and the landscape is green. In winter, water flow can freeze partially and trails may be icy.

📾 Photography Tips

Best time of day:

  • Late afternoon or golden hour for warm side light and soft shadows

  • Overcast works well for balancing the waterfall’s contrast

Recommended gear:

  • Wide-angle lens to capture the full falls

  • Telephoto to compress background hills

  • Drone to show the waterfall’s location nestled in green hills and lava edges

Composition ideas:

  • Walk behind the waterfall to shoot from inside the curtain

  • Frame with mossy rocks or use lava textures as foreground

  • Drone: orbit or fly low to emphasize the curve of the surrounding hills
