🪐 Red Mars-Like Landscape
🗺️ How to Get There:
From Road 54 on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, turn onto Road 55 heading inland. After a short drive, look for a gravel road turning left across the lava field (there’s no official signage). Follow this track carefully until it ends at the red-soil area. Road conditions vary, a 4x4 is recommended, especially after rain or in winter.

📅 Best Time of the Year to Visit:
May to September offers dry conditions and better access. In late summer, the moss is most vibrant, enhancing the color contrast. Avoid during heavy rain or snow due to slippery track and risk of getting stuck.

📸 Photography Tips
Best time of day:

Golden hour adds warmth to the red terrain and makes the moss glow

Overcast works well to balance contrast between red soil and green fields

Midday drone shots highlight abstract color patterns and texture

Recommended gear:

Drone for top-down shots of the red-and-green contrast

Wide-angle lens for immersive landscape perspectives

Composition ideas:

Use aerial shots to capture the contrast and swirling terrain patterns

Shoot with a wide lens close to the red soil foreground, with lava fields behind

Frame a person or car for dramatic scale against the otherworldly backdrop
