Hofskirkja
🗺️ How to Get There:
Located just off Route 1 near the village of Hof in Southeast Iceland. Follow signs into the small hamlet, and you’ll find the church tucked into the hillside beside a few turf-roofed buildings. The road is paved and suitable for all vehicles.

📅 Best Time of the Year to Visit:
Year-round.
In summer, the lush turf roof blends into the surrounding grass and mountains. In winter, it looks magical under snow, especially with soft light or twilight.

📸 Photography Tips
Best time of day:

  • Morning light offers soft side lighting on the church

  • Golden hour for warm light on the turf and backdrop hills

  • Overcast days work well to emphasize textures and tones

Recommended gear:

  • Wide-angle lens for full views with surroundings

Composition ideas:

  • Frame the church with turf mounds in the foreground

  • Use the path or small fences as leading lines

  • Detail shots of the door, windows, or turf roof textures, also the threes planted near the church are very unique and offer very cool shapes for leading lines
