🌋 Rauðaskál Crater
🗺️ How to Get There:
Drive east from Road 26 and take the Landmannaleið (F225) road until you reach the intersection with the Hekla mountain road that ascends toward Mt. Hekla. Follow signs for Hekla and Rauðaskál. This route require a highly capable 4x4 vehicle, conditions can be rough, with deep ruts and steep inclines if you want to reach the crater rim.
Once near the crater, you’ll find a short trail leading to the rim. The red slopes and panoramic views make it a spectacular, if remote, spot.
📅 Best Time of the Year to Visit:
July to early September. The track is only accessible during summer. Visit during stable conditions and overcast skies for the best color contrast in the red slopes.

Drone for aerials top-downs of the crater symmetry, colors and patterns
Composition ideas:
Shoot from the rim’s edge to show depth and scale

Fly your drone high for a full-circle top-down of the crater
Frame with Mt. Hekla in the background when possible
