It is a huge salt lake, located at the lowest point on planet Earth: we are -400 meters above sea level and it marks the border between Jordan and Israel. It has a salinity of more than 30 percent (consider that the sea has at most 4 percent!). The waters and mud have healing effects on numerous diseases and beneficial effects on the skin. Bathing in the Dead Sea is an experience you will remember for a lifetime.

• Don't get your face wet. The Dead Sea water has an oily consistency. On the body it is pleasant, but on the face it burns like acid!

• Mud bath: When the Dead Sea water recedes, it leaves puddles with sludge inside (you will find the mud collected in pools to make it easier for you) as precious as gold.

• Avoid swimming on your stomach with your face submerged-it's hard to turn over on your back.

I have been told by local people that it is estimated that in about 40 to 50 years the Dead Sea will no longer exist. Being fed only by the Jordan River, in fact, less and less water is coming into its basin.Both Jordan and Israel tap the holy river as the only source of fresh water in the area, preventing it from reaching as far as the great salt lake. More water evaporates than arrives. For years there has been talk of a huge pharaonic project between Israel, Jordan and Palestine to bring water from the Red Sea to the Dead Sea.

🇮🇹 È un enorme lago salato, sito nel punto più basso del pianeta Terra: siamo a -400 metri sul livello del mare e segna il confine tra la Giordania e Israele. Ha una salinità di oltre il 30% (considerate che il mare ne ha al massimo 4%!). Le acque ed i fanghi hanno effetti curativi su numerose malattie ed effetti benefici sulla pelle. Fare il bagno nel Mar Morto è un’esperienza che ti ricorderai per tutta la vita.

• Non ti bagnare il viso. L’acqua del Mar Morto ha una consistenza oleosa. Sul corpo è piacevole, ma sul viso brucia come fosse acido!

• Bagno con fango: Quando l’acqua del Mar Morto si ritira, lascia delle pozze con all’interno una fanghiglia (troverai il fango raccolto in vasche per agevolarti) preziosa come l’oro.

• Evita di nuotare a pancia in giù con il viso sommerso: è difficile girarti sulla schiena.

Un lago che muore

Mi è stato raccontato dalle persone del posto che si stima che tra circa 40/50 anni il Mar Morto non esisterà più. Essendo alimentato solo dal Giordano, infatti, nel bacino che lo ospita arriva sempre meno acqua.Sia la Giordania che Israele sfruttano il fiume santo come unica fonte di acqua dolce della zona, impedendo l’arrivo fino al grande lago salato. L’acqua evapora in quantità superiore a quella che arriva. Da anni si parla di un enorme progetto faraonico tra Israele, la Giordania e la Palestina per portare l’acqua del Mar Rosso fino al Mar Morto.
