The Continental Divide at the Banff-Kootenay border🧭
A cool roadside stop where you can stand with one foot in Alberta and one in British Columbia. It's worth getting out to grab a quick photo by the sign and think about water on one side flowing to the Atlantic and on the other to the Pacific.
The BC-AB border was set to follow the spine of the Rockies in 1905 when Alberta became a province. Survey crews marked a lot of this line in the 1910s and 1920s. So you are literally on that historic watershed and boundary line. Simple, geeky, and very cool.

🏕️⛈ STORM MOUNTAIN LODGE
Just a few minutes drive away, you can stay at a historic hand-built lodge and cabins, originally built in 1922. Tucked into the forest, perfectly placed between Banff and the Kootenays. It has big crackling fireplaces, mountain views all around, and AMAZING food. For more details on the lodge, check out its pin on my map

✅ TIPS FROM DEV, LINKS & SAFETY
Don't forget to be a tourist and take the classic one foot in each province shot... (just kidding, I've done it too lol)
Great add-on when you’re driving between Banff and the Kootenays for the sake of 4-5 minutes.
