The Jasper Planetarium & dark sky telescope tours give you a chance to see the cosmic wonders of the night sky. Jasper National Park is an official dark sky territory, meaning zero light pollution between you and the views of distant galaxies, glowing nebulas, and the Northern Lights.

Whether you're sitting inside their domed theatre or looking through the largest optical telescopes in the Canadian Rockies, it’s an interactive, family-friendly evening led by passionate astronomy guides. 🪐 TELESCOPE & PLANETARIUM TOUR

The Telescope & Planetarium experience combines the best of both worlds. Lasting a total of 1 hour 30 minutes, you’ll start inside the climate-controlled planetarium dome for a live, 35 minute immersive trip through local First Nations constellations, the Milky Way, and the outer edges of the universe.

Afterwards, you’ll head outside to gaze through powerful optical telescopes, hold real meteorites from space (and even Moon and Mars rocks!), and learn how to capture the Aurora Borealis on camera. 🛍 PLANETARIUM DESK & GIFT SHOP

Inside the downstairs floor of the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge, the Planetarium retail desk is where you’ll check in for your tour. They also have a cool selection of space-themed gifts, stargazing guides, real meteorites, and souvenirs. It's also a great spot to grab a coffee or dinner at the lodge before your evening show.

✅ TIPS FROM DEV, LINKS & SAFETY

• Age Restrictions: Minimum age for this experience is 4+ years old (no infants or toddlers permitted).

• Book After Sunset: When picking your time slot, aim for a time after sunset for the best chances at deep-space telescope views. The later the time, the better.

• Cloudy Skies Policy: If it’s cloudy during your tour, the guides run an interactive 4K indoor pavilion program. Not only that, your telescope ticket comes with a 2 year 'raincheck' so you can rebook and return on a clearer night for free.

• Check-In Location & Timing: Arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your tour time to check in at the Planetarium desk (downstairs inside the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge). Latecomers will not be admitted once the dome presentation begins.

• Dress Warmly: Nighttime in the Rockies drops fast in temperature! Even in peak summer, bring a warm hoodie/jacket, toque, and gloves for the outdoor telescope portion. In winter, dress in full thermal layers and insulated boots.
