The world famous Fairmont Château Lake Louise🏰

Doesn't matter how many times you’ve seen Lake Louise on Instagram, it still hits in real life. And the Château is basically the ultimate way to experience it. You’re not just visiting the lake like most people coming in on a shuttle bus, you’re waking up to it, watching the glacier light up at sunrise from your window, then stepping outside and being on the shoreline before the crowds of 10,000 people show up lol.

Mountain luxury with big windows, cosy lounges, fireplaces, and that “historic grand hotel” vibe. On the pricey side and way out of my budget personally, but for obvious reasons. In summer you’ve got canoeing and some of Banff’s most iconic hikes right out the door. In winter, it turns into a frozen wonderland. Ice skating on the lake (when safe), sleigh rides, cross-country ski trails, and then finishing the day in the spa or heated infinity pool while everything turns pink at sunset!

🌿 Hotel Amenities

  • Paid parking (valet optional).

  • Skate rentals are available in winter.

  • Beautiful lakeview or mountain view rooms.

  • General stores, cafes, gift stores, and much more.

  • Fairmont Spa, fitness centre, and a heated outdoor infinity pool.

  • Wifi?: Yes

  • Cell Service?: Yes - limited

  • Pet Friendly?: Yes - for a fee

  • Restaurant?: Yes

    - Alpine Social: A casual spot. Food and drinks without the “fancy dinner” vibes.

    - Lakeview Lounge: Big windows, glacier views, comfy lounge, and a drink or snacks.

    - Fairview Bar & Restaurant: More of a proper sit-down spot. Solid for an after hike dinner when you want something a bit nicer.

🛶 CANOE RENTALS

For a fun splurge, rent a canoe from the lakeshore boathouse (typically open from late spring to early fall) and paddle right on that turquoise water! Canoes fit up to 3 people.
As of 2025, prices were $160 (+GST) for 30 minutes or $170 (+GST) for 60 minutes. Pricey, yes, but a memorable way to soak in the views from the water.

(Please note: The Boathouse only accepts card payment.)

⛸ WINTER SKATING

In winter, a spot is set up on the lake for skating with a maintained area and the option to rent skates. So you can easily get out on the ice without bringing your own gear. Conditions can still change day to day though, especially with weather swings.

Follow posted signs and stay within cleared areas. Check daily conditions or ask staff if you’re unsure, skate with a buddy, and keep it sensible. You are responsible for your own safety.

🔗 BOOKINGS & DETAILS

If you want to stay here, you can check availability, pricing and more info here: Fairmont Château Lake Louise

(Note: This place sells out fast for summer. If your link shows “no hotels available,” try different dates. It usually just means your selected dates are fully booked)

✅ TIPS FROM DEV, LINKS & SAFETY

  • Try and book a late afternoon spa slot so you can soak in the heated outdoor infinity pool while watching the sunset over the Victoria Glacier.

  • Pack layers. Even summer mornings can be cold until the sun hits the valley.

  • Only skate when conditions are deemed safe - if you're unsure, stay off the ice. You are responsible for your own safety.
