This is definitely the most interesting place in Little Petra! In fact it is a cave on which magnificent paintings have been executed. The frescoes of the Painted House, are 2,000 years old and restored by the prestigious Cultural Institute of Arts in London. The Painted House probably also served as a dining hall for merchants. What is interesting is that although its roof is blackened from later use given to it by Bedouins, fragments of wall paintings from the Nabataean period can still be discerned. Painting expert Stephen Rickerby says they are comparable only to Roman ones found at the site of Pompeii and Herculaneum.Painted House in Little Petra is a hidden gem with delicate floral and vine paintings that have survived for centuries. Probabilmente la Casa Dipinta serviva anche come sala da pranzo per i mercanti. La cosa interessante è che, nonostante il suo tetto sia annerito dall’uso successivo che gli furono dati dai beduini, si possono ancora distinguere frammenti di pitture murali del periodo nabateo.
