Sugarloaf Reservoir is a great spot for a picnicking, fishing and hiking and the Sugarloaf Reservoir Circuit is a decent 15km day hike around the entire reservoir. The track starts out from the Ridge Picnic Area of Simpson Road or Saddle Dam Picnic Area if you want to head straight from the car park into bushland (this was how I did it). You can do the trail in either direction from these car parks as it will lead you back via a loop circuit anyways with one major steep hill to climb from both directions - this is where the best lake views are from! The trail follows along the reservoir with a few gentle hills here and there.

Expect to see kangaroos, wildflowers in spring and be walking on dirt and grassy tracks - we even saw an echidna! Wear proper hiking attire, bring water, snacks and download the trail map ahead of time. Keep in mind that the park is open every day but the gates open at 8.30 am and close at 5.00 pm daily (7.00 pm during daylight savings).
