Plaine d’Affouches is one of Saint-Denis’s best-kept green escapes — a quiet highland plateau lined with forests, picnic spots, and walking trails. It sits just above the capital, accessible via the winding road from La Montagne, but once you're up there, it feels far from the city.
What you’ll find:
Cool, shady walking paths through native and planted forest
Picnic tables and viewpoints — including occasional glimpses toward the coast
Trail access to Mamode Camp and beyond, for more serious hikers
A popular training ground for local runners, but rarely crowded
Birdsong and mist, especially in the early morning
It’s not a tourist destination, and that’s the draw — a forested plateau where locals walk dogs, go trail running or just breathe. You can explore as much or as little as you like.
👉 Local tip: Bring layers — it’s cooler and wetter up here. If you’re using public transport, a car is highly recommended for access.
