The lively centrepiece of the city is the bustling bazaar. It is located north of the little river Bistrica along Çarshia e gjatë. The very well-kept row of shops originated in the Ottoman era, but was almost completely destroyed during the Albanian-Italian occupation and then again during the Kosovo war. In the meantime, the houses of the historic market have been completely restored to almost their original state. Back then, the district was dominated by blacksmiths and carpenters, but today you can spend hours browsing through jewellery shops, souvenir shops and boutiques.
