Who would like to spend the night in an original Kulla?

3 kilometres south of Deçan lies the small village of Drenoc (also known as Dranoc), an interesting destination when visiting the Kulla. There, 400 metres east of the centre, is the large estate of the Mazrekaj family, surrounded by high walls and now a listed site. It is one of the most striking examples of Albanian fortified house architecture and is typical of the Dukagjin region. The centrepiece of the large courtyard is a stately, three-storey stone mansion from the 19th century with a particularly large number of windows and wooden elements as well as ceramic roof tiles.

The Mazrekaj Kulla has been restored and converted into a guesthouse with the support of the Swiss Cultural Association for Heritage Protection, a fine example of the rural tourism that is slowly developing in Kosovo and which certainly has potential there. Cultural festivals and events are also organised in the courtyard. The house has one bedroom with several simple beds and a bathroom, and the ground floor has been kept true to the original.
