In the small park opposite, a rather eccentric monument immediately catches the eye: the Heroinat Memorial. As graceful as it is, it is a harrowing and deeply moving memorial. The sculptural Heroinat (English: heroines), 5.5 metres high and 4.5 metres wide, consists of 20,000 metal pins which, when viewed as a whole, depict the face of an Albanian/Kosovar woman, and each individual pin also shows a woman's face. It honours the courageous women who played a significant role during the Kosovo War and pays tribute to their courage and contribution to the fight for freedom.

In the course of their research, the designers came across a Human Rights Watch article stating that almost this number of women were raped during the Kosovo War. The memorial was unveiled on 12 June 2015, the day of Kosovo's liberation.
