To the northeast, in the same Hasan Prishtina Park, stands the At the southernmost end of Rruga Xhorxh Bush, the elegant Mother Teresa Cathedral, a new landmark of the city, has been built in recent years. It is a three-nave, snow-white basilica in modern style with two slender bell towers. The foundation stone for this huge Catholic church was laid in 2003, construction work began in 2007, and in 2016 work was still underway on the simple marble interior decoration. It was then consecrated in September 2017 (on the 20th anniversary of Mother Teresa's death on 5 September). The interior is refreshingly modern. The construction costs amounted to a good €2.5 million, €100,000 of which was curiously donated by a Muslim Albanian businessman.
