To the northeast, in the same Hasan Prishtina Park, stands the unfinished Christ the Saviour Cathedral. Construction of the Serbian Orthodox church, which was to combine both modern and traditional elements, began in 1995. In January 1999, the cross was placed on the roof, but then construction work came to a standstill due to the war. The cathedral stands empty and further construction work is currently a long way off due to unresolved ownership issues. Both the Serbian Orthodox Church and the University of Prishtina are laying claim to the property.
