🏔️ Svörtuloft Lighthouse
🗺️ How to Get There: From Road 574, take the gravel track toward Öndverðarnes. The road is rough and slow-going but doable in dry summer conditions with a standard car, though a 4x4 is preferred for comfort. Drive until the road ends at a small lot by the cliffs, the lighthouse is right there. If you want to capture the cliffs with the crashing waves I recommend you to stop about 500m before you reach the parking near the lighthouse, from there walk towards the edge of the cliffs for the best view.
📅 Best Time of the Year to Visit:
Late spring to autumn (snow can make the road impassable in winter)
Summer evenings offer amazing golden hour light on the cliffs
Overcast and stormy conditions create moody, powerful atmospheres, perfect for long exposures of waves
📸 Photography Tips
Best time of day:
Golden hour for side light on the cliffs
Midday works well in cloudy/stormy conditions
Recommended gear:
Wide-angle lens for capturing the lighthouse against the cliffs
Telephoto to isolate waves or the edge of the cliffs
Drone highly recommended for top-down views of the lava coastline and lighthouse
Composition ideas:
Position the orange lighthouse off-center for contrast against the dark lava
Frame the cliff edges with crashing waves for motion and drama
Drone shots from the ocean side emphasize the remoteness of the location
