The Castello di Filattiera in Lunigiana is a 13th century Malaspina Castle that overlooks the Magra River and the village of Mulazzo.

Filattiera Castle was renovated in the 15th century and occupies two sides of the main square and is equipped with imposing walls crowned by a Ghibelline battlements added during the renovations by the current owners, the Cesare Buglia family.

This is Filattiera's "old town" or medieval center. Locals call it Filattiera Alto, the high town. It's quite nice to stroll through the borgo, and the restaurant called Trattoria Il Cantinon is right in the square: Piazza Castello, 1, 54023 Filattiera MS, Italy. my "tagliata", a steak with strips of lardo and cherry tomatoes was very good.

By the way, the green plants growing out of the castle walls are very healthy caper plants.
