Mataranka Thermal Pool is another beautiful hot spring located within Elsey National Park, just a short drive from Bitter Springs. Surrounded by tall palms and lush greenery, the pool has a tropical feel and feels like a little oasis in the outback.
The thermal water stays at a warm 34 degrees year-round and is incredibly clear and calming. The pool itself is man made but fed by a natural spring, making it the perfect spot to relax for a while. It's located just behind the homestead, which has a bar and kitchen that is great if you're in the mood for a bite to eat or a cold drink after your swim.
This spot is super popular and can get quite busy during the day, so we’d recommend visiting early in the morning or later in the afternoon when it's a little quieter. We personally preferred Bitter Springs for its more natural feel, but if you're after an easy and accessible place to take a dip, Mataranka Thermal Pool is still a great spot to check out.
Since this spot is located within a national park, you will need to purchase a national park pass. A day pass is $10 per person, or you can grab a two-week pass for $30. The same pass gives you access to most Northern Territory parks.
