We have visited Uluru three times and the Kuniya Walk to Muṯitjulu Waterhole is still one of my favourite spots for photos. It is a short walk from the car park where you simply follow the path straight ahead. This track takes you right up close to Uluru with views that will make your jaw drop as you realise just how big and magical this place is. Up close, the rock feels so different as you can see every detail, from small caves to unique markings.
The green trees contrast beautifully with the rich red tones of Uluru and the surrounding outback landscape. At the end of the walk, you will see dark markings on the rock where streams of water create small waterfalls that flow into a sacred waterhole. Just before reaching the waterhole, there is a short path that leads into a cave where you can view the ancient rock art.
The flies around Uluru during the day are notorious, so bring a fly net for your face to make the experience more enjoyable, especially if you are easily bothered by them.
Your NT Parks Pass does not cover Uluru, so you will need to purchase a separate pass. You can buy it online before you go or at the entrance gate. It costs $38 per person for a three day pass.
