Nitmiluk Tours offer a range of incredible experiences through the gorge, and whichever one you choose, you’ll be blown away by the cultural significance and natural beauty of this landscape. We chose the NitNit Dreaming Two Gorge Tour, which runs for two hours, and we absolutely loved it. Tours depart at 7am, 9am, and 2pm. We went at 9am, but if we were to do it again, we’d definitely choose the earlier slot. The soft morning light peaking through the gorge would be absolutely magical and you’ll also likely have fewer people on the tour.
The tour begins with a relaxing cruise through the first gorge, drifting alongside towering limestone walls. When you reach the end of the first gorge, you’ll step off the boat and take a short 400 metre walk to another boat waiting in the second gorge.
The second gorge was our favourite by far, with its beautiful rock formations and unique textures that felt completely different from the first. Along the way, the local guides share stories about the area’s plants, animals, and rich Dreamtime culture. We even spotted a few freshwater crocodiles chilling along the banks, and it was so interesting to learn about the deep spiritual connection the Jawoyn people have with this land.
This tour was a real highlight of the trip and is such a special way to explore Nitmiluk Gorge.
